Avion was built in 1980 in Denmark in the Bianca Boatyard.  The designers were Elvstrom and Kjaerulff, and the model is known as a Bianca414.  There were approximately 11 Bianca414’s built and is the bigger sister to the Aphrodite101 which are very popular in Europe. The company later merged with Hanse Yacht builders.

This boat has a rich history: Allan Fletcher, a noted Great lakes sailor, purchased this boat new in 1981. Originally named “Colt 45”, the boat was delivered in Florida, where she raced the 1981 SORC. After the SORC she was transported to Alpena, Michigan (fresh water) which was her homeport until 1995 when a SF attorney purchased her and named her “Sundog.” The previous owner purchased her in 2004 and named her “Avion.”  The current owner, bought her in 2009, and decided to keep the name.

  1. Happy Birthday Nico,
What a perfect way to celebrate your 24th. Out in the middle (kind of) of the ocean on an epic adventure.
Much luck and fair winds to you and the rest of the crew.
    Jens
